August Program

OPEN LEADERSHIP August Event Kaduna 2018.

LEADERSHIP AND PERSONAL GROWTH by Jerry Maurice.

What is Leadership?

We all have divers ways of explaining or defining leadership.

But as Leaders, i will technically explain leadership as an act of influencing the thinking  behaviour or development of another person.

Meaning for one to lead, you must influence.

To be an effective leader, you have to be a servant.

You have to subject yourself to service.
Today, i won't be teaching something new but i will be pointing out areas we as leaders need to improve in order to grow our personal and leadership skills.
The act of leadership starts from the Heart.

Your heart must be willing to submit to serve. This means you have to validate for your followers.
If your heart is not fine tuned for this role there is no way you can make it because it takes the transformation of your heart into the right shape for things around you to change too.

This 4 subheadings are the 4 Domains of leadership.

1. THE HEART (why leaders lead)

2. THE HEAD (what leaders think)

3. THE HANDS (what leaders do)

4. THE HABITS (How leaders stay on track).

1. THE HEART
Effective leadership begins with the heart and the kind of decision it stands on.
If the heart is fixed on the right values, it grows out to influence positively on the spheres of influence.

And if its otherwise, the spheres will be influenced negatively.
The spheres of influence is as seen below.

Before you can influence or lead others, you must first be able to lead yourself.
And the out come of your ability to lead yourself is
PERSPECTIVE

Leading another extending your knowledge to enlighten others nearest to you and being responsible, this leads to building trust amongst you.
Leading others is now when you have proven yourself and trust have been built then you are testified and called to lead in a capacity and this results in community influence.

Leading an organization gives birth to a standard practice, norm, values and culture among the organization.
Within this whole spheres, self development which started from the heart is key.

The first thing in leadership trend his tuning the mind to be God fearing. Once this is set right, your results will be its product.
But once you edge God out of your guidance, your attitude will be over thrown by pride and fear.

And this will result in failure through separating you from God, people that would have supported you.

Also it would lead you into comparing yourself with others and thus leading you into unhappy mindset which will worsen the state of your decisions.

Also a bigger threat is fear which will belittle yourself confidence.

Perhaps if your heart is control by God the result will be positive but when controlled by man, you act according to their wishes.

As you seek to lead others, you also reflect those who influence you.

1. When you lead under the influence of those you seek to please their priorities, anxieties, vision, values, conducts and character, please chose wisely.

2. when you lead under the influence of those you fear their power, weakness, prayers, promises, hot buttons, blind spots, pride etc, remember, the fear of man is a trap.

3. when leading under the influence of those you are committed
-their integrity, mission, judgement, allegiances and alliances.  Dont be equally joked. this are all the decisions you need to make from the heart.  Same goes when influence by love. Love well
Once only God is exalted, you will lead with HUMILITY AND GOD GROUNDED CONFIDENCE which will give birth to healthy community, contentment and common trust.

SUBHEADING 2
THE HEAD (the think bank)
Where there is no vision , the people are unrestrained. As quoted from the holy book.
A leader must be well acquitted the

1. knowledge of the business he is involved in. i.e pre/basic knowledge.
2. his values
3. picture/image of the future.
3.Goals
Leadership  begins wit a clear vision once the heart has been fine tuned.

The role of the head is divided into two. A failure in any of this becomes a weakness to the the leadership strength.

1. a visionary role

2. and implementation role
This is like doing the right thing and doing it the right way.
Visionary direction is clearly described by a traditional pyramid hierarchy.

It explains how people looks up to the leaders for vision and direction why the leadership should involve experience people in shaping this direction. Hence the ultimate responsibility remains with the leader and cant be delegated to others.

Implementation

Has to do wit living according to the vision and direction. This is d aspect most leaders and organizations get into trouble. Here, the traditional pyramid is turned upside down leaving the customers uncared for.

Turning the pyramid upside down now helps the customer's to get direct contact wit the top unit.

This helps leaders to serve and be responsive to the needs of employees
(4) success factors required for a good leader
1. Staying focused.
2. groom, mentor and teach ur Followers to understanding.
3. safety is your responsibility. Protect and defend your followers. its builds trust and confidence
4. A leader without a successor is a failure. Raise successors.

THE THIRD SUBHEADING

THE HANDS (what you do)
Leadership is a process which starts from being a novice to becoming a master.
Every single disciple of Christ had a skill but none had a practical knowledge of their new task.

How can someone change from a novice to a master?
What are the levels?
Well, the 4 levels of leader change are;
1. knowledge
2. attitude
3. behaviour
4. community.

You firstly change your knowledge level, afterwards adjust your attitudes to the new knowledge which influences you new behaviour and then it spreads to influence your followers.

Once this change is effected, you will start facing what is known as the

7 dynamics of change.
How do one move from a novice in leadership to a Master?
Novice is just someone who just started
To everyone of us here, no1 is a novice. You know why?
Because we all have passed the first stage of the Heart (mind)

Apprentice
Some of us is here and and some have been completely stocked here. How do we move on?
Apprentice is someone acquiring skills or own a bit of skills though not enough to take up a task.

Stay focus learn and get mentorship, Read new books. Through this you can sail through.

Although this stage can Be overwhelming and make one confused, but stay focus and be transparent to your mentor.

The next stage is the journey man, at the stage you can work independently.

Some of us are at this stage in leadership. We can undertake and execute task.

The grand stage is the Master stage,  at this stage you have executed and completed task consistently and r successful that you want to help others be successful in it too.

This stage has a few and limited person even in our society too. The are mentors and coach.
And lastly;

THE DOING HABITS
Its surrounded by obeying and expressing Gods love. How?
Well,
 1. sharing grace. Grace is extending unrestrained fellowship to others.
2. forgiving
3. encouraging
4. communal

Stress Management

Open Leadership program on Stress Management. August 2018 What is stress? By Fumni A. Stress can be defined as any pressure, demand, or threat placed on an organism (say, a human being) that causes a need to re-establish balance or “equilibrium”. The Oxford Dictionary Online adds that stress is “a state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from adverse or demanding circumstances.” The notion of stress has become a common word in our modern lexicon, but how much do most of us really know about it? Myth 1: Stress is the same for everyone. No, it isn’t. People experience life events in their own unique way. What is stressful for one person may be neutral or even anticipated by others. For example: some people hate flying, whereas others are completely relaxed, even on long-haul flights. Myth 2: Stress is always bad for you. Not necessarily. Small to moderate amounts of stress help us develop our self-discipline and resourcefulness, and some stressful events are

October Lecture

RELATIONSHIP DEVELOPMENT By Ayodeji Samuel Akindulu Lead Strategist Beyond Int'l Lecture date: October 13, 2018. Kaduna South Topic: RELATIONSHIP DEVELOPMENT we need to understand what relationship is and why relationship because it takes two (2) to tangle. Relationship is not just for one person  ie. Your vision is too big for only you to handle, you need people. Like i said last week on Purpose and Value Class, we are created not to be independent but interdependent also we have relationships and we have meaningful relationships. For you to have a meaningful relationship, you must discover your purpose and have a vision because you don't need everybody, you only need the people that alligns with your purpose, vision and passion. So every relationship you enter into, you need to define it for the relationship to be meaningful, individuals involved must also learn how to give off their-selfless services and die to their-self. Just like flowers,
